Jackson, MI, rare species sighting

A noted Audubon specialist recently sent me this very rare image. He states that it is a very rare photo of the South Central Nocturnal Shopasaurius. This species is rarely seen in daylight as it is a very nocturnal creature, living in Box 2565 and normally only venturing out for postings and sustenance.

This sighting was in Jackson, MI. You will note the bright orange plumage running diagonally across the breast. It is reported that this color brightens as the species nears any source of old ephemera. While generally docile, it is not suggested that an observer get between the species and any old photographs as anti-social behavior could result.

It is rumored that this species may temporarily migrate to Allentown, PA in April, but that is unconfirmed at the moment.

Apparently, that species is native to Southwestern Ohio mostly around the Cincinnati area and into Northern Kentucky. Migration patters vary as I once saw that particular species up here in Youngstown! It was quite a treat.

My understanding is those bright orange markings lead to a pouch that is often empty. As Paul noted this creature tends to be nocturnal but lurking near keyboards, particularly on mornings when they have been unable to sleep for very long, does occur. An unusual characteristic of this photo is that the blue with orange stripe variation is usually located behind a camera instead of being the subject of the photo. Surprisingly neither Paul nor Greg mentions the most noticeable trait; the incredible good looks of the South Central Nocturnal Shopasaurius. On the left with a green breast and blue bill is a variety known to inhabit the south side of Chicago.

Jackson or Allentown this year; hmmm...

When is the Jackson meet? I tried to go to the Geat Lakes chapter website, but something there is triggering one of my security filters.

Barb and I had fun in Jackson, MI this past weekend. It was great to see so many people from the forums in attendance. I'm not sure which one of you brought the rain and the cold but we really could have done without it! :) I hope everyone who was selling did well and anyone looking for parts and pieces found just what they were looking for. I picked up a few things for Ember this weekend so I came back happy.
