This engine was originally in service with the Washington Twp. F.D. of Moscow, Ohio. Ohio Township does not have a fire department, they contract for fire protection. Currently Pierce Twp. to provide protection which is why the door is lettered "Ohio - Pierce".

The Ferrara engine that was used as FDNY Squad 55 on the TV series Third Watch is now touring the U.S. and being demonstrated by Ferrara sales agencies. Yesterday the rig was at Hebron, Kentucky. The apparatus is available for purchase with an asking price of $398,000.00.

I'm surprised that the FDNY didn't buy it.

I wondered about the "Squad 55" rig too. If the piece was built to their spec, why not pick it up?

Lieutenant
Steve,

Did Ferrara tell you it was built to FDNY spec?
I question it, becuse it's way to small and has the wrong compartmentation for an FDNY Squad unit. It is close to a pre 2000 (yr?) unit, but the new Squads are monsters with high side compartments.

Second reason for no purchase is FDNY standards. There is a reason why Pierce and the rest don't have FDNY contracts fore Engines or ladders.

Lately though Ferrara has made a move on what used to be Horton and Saulsbury teritory.

I know Ferrara built 5 or more units recently for FDNY on Mack MR chassis I can''t recall wether they were High Pressure or Satellite units though. Other FDNY Ferrara's include MR Chassis Collapse Units (Several replace Saulsburys) Chevy Fire Patrol units (Several replaced Hortons) and the Satellite units (Several, if for this use replacing Saulsbury once again.)

That rig was never meant to be an active FDNY unit. It was merely used for the TV show Third Watch. FDNY does have one Ferrera pumper, the "Spirit of Louisiana." It was donated by the state of LA following 9/11. That unit has actually been sent to New Orleans with a groupp of FDNY firefighters assisting their NOFD brothers.

Lieutenant
Joe,

I thought the unit was strictly for the show, but I was taking it that it was built to the FDNY spec for the show. Of course to do it corectly it must have Seagrave on the front:D

I Didn't realize that's the unit FDNY sent to LA, although it makes sense! Kind of Ironic that they raised funds for it and now it's back helping them.

Isn't this unit now assigned to the training division? IFRC I was told it was to be used for pump operation, and driver training.

This apparatus was constructed exactly as the other two high pressure engines that were purchased by FDNY from Ferrara. I think folks are getting confused due to the lettering. This apparatus was not built to FDNY squad specs, it was constructed to the high pressure engine specs. These high pressure (3 stage pumps) rigs are assigned in Manhattan and there may be a couple in Downtown Brooklyn.

Yeah, that FDNY pumper was not built for acutal squad use, that was just for the show but the rig itself is built for engine co. use in FDNY. They have 5 of those I believe in the city in service just like that one.
