10 minute "benchmarks" are to give on scene command an idea of how long they have been on scene. So, if it takes 2 benchmarks to search for victims, they know it has been 20 minutes. It just lets them know their task to time ratio. Several of the departments in the county use the benchmarks.
Thanks for replying, Sadly, the fire this morning on Victory Ave resulted in a civilian fatality, I didnt stay awake long enough to hear that even if they would announce it over radio.
I could somewhat see the fire from my apartment in Downtown and the smoke was consistently lit up by the flames, the resulting smoke drifted well past W Exchange up to W Market, There was a second call out to investigate a possible second fire in the area but it turned out to be the caller seeing the Victory Ave scene from their apartment by Thorton.
I asked a Medic crew recently if the Firefighters Challenge would be coming back to Akron, One of the medics mentioned that It may never return due to equipment thefts that happened last time Akron hosted it, any truth to this?
I want to photograph "foreign" staff vehicles again in Akron, Back in 2007, I photographed Henrico County Fire(VA) and Montgomery County MD.
