Nice shots from the parade, if I would have thought about it I could have snapped a few shots. I know the Lt on 10's that day, he used to be one of our HazMat Lts. Bat 9 in front is also a good friend of mine. Just a little tidbit of info, as of Saturday March there is only 1 Captian left on the AFD. All the battalions are Lts acting as captians. All previous captians have been promoted to district Chiefs or retired. All other promotions are held up in a huge lawsuit. I think there is 15-16 open Captian spots and something around 30 Lt spots once the other promotion happens. It is a mess.

Interesting that Akron is making a shift to commercial chassis. Also, you don't see many Sutphens on Freightliner chassis.

It is interesting, but not overly surprising. Realistically almost 2 commercial chassis rigs can be purchased for the same cost as a new custom. I imagine that they are going to be putting these trucks at their slower stations. I know this one at 11, and I think 12, and 5 also need them. So they may hold up longer. I also believe that 2 needs a new engine, but with how busy that truck is, not sure if they would hold up. Who knows.
I know one of the Chiefs when the new quint, tower 10, was purchased, was kind of disappointed they did not go with Sutphen then. Not sure if there is a connection or just wanted to keep the business in Ohio. Either way, not my department so not much I can do to sway either way. I can say, that our KME on a commercial chassis is holding up just fine, but it has only been a few years.

Regarding the new E-11, I am told that AFD will receive 2 more similar trucks, I think the Ellet station was mentioned.

Station 5 in Ellet makes sense for a new engine. They are still running with one of the 1990 Sutphen quints. Probably 14's in Goodyear Heights may be getting the other, as they are running with a spare Sutphen quint since theirs was condemned by fleet maintenance.

One thing I have learned, if it is AFD it may not necessarily make sense to the rest of us. Glad to see they finally promoted the lieutenants, now just to finish this stuff and promote the captains. I think there are no captains left in the city now. The last one got promoted, or is getting promoted soon.

New E11 is in service. The med unit pictured may be a reserve, but I did not think they had any of those left as reserves. Only ones left were specialty units. Or that could be their bariatric unit, I just don't see any markings on it.
As far as a new med unit, don't think there is one on a International chassis.

Word on the street is that AFD has been approved to purchase new apparatus. E12 will be getting one of them. Tower 14 will not be getting another tower, but an identical engine to E12's. Tower 5 will however be getting a new tower, similar to Tower 10's quint.

Just curious...I wonder if the Name Sutphen is part of this purchase ??????

From what I have heard, 2 new engines are in the works. They will be commercial chassis like new E11. Just did not have station locations chosen in writing as of first of year. Did not hear about a new "tower" replacement.

Also, heard talks of building a new station to replace 12 & 9. Both companies would run out of 1 station half way between their current locations. Heard the city owns land closer to 12's, but not sure what the current situation is with it.
