It sure looks like it; it lives! If the current owner makes it work, than more power to them.

    2 Firetrucks as Family Heirlooms

Yes, we didn't even have the previous photo of the 54 I posted when we did the city book in 2004. The Seagrave sedan actually made it back to a CMVFD member a few years back, but it was in really bad shape. All tankers prior to the 1980 Mack MC (which was wrecked) were probably scrapped.

    2 Firetrucks as Family Heirlooms

Independent's 1st motor fire engine was a 1908 Howe, followed by 1921 and 1931 ALFS. I recommend this book, plus the Independent's own 1994 history book.

    2 Firetrucks as Family Heirlooms

The 54 was sold in 1972, so the trail may have gotten cold. When I shot the 53 in 1997, it was owned by the fire company.

    Montgomery County, Md. fire apparatus

The Diamond Reo chassis of the 1960-70s was an imposing truck, but not many ended up as fire apparatus. Upper Montgomery's E143 was a 1972 Diamond Reo/Oren 750/500/55, served UMCVFD until 1986 when it was sold to the new Rawlings VFD in Allegany Co., MD. where it replaced a donated 1949...

An old Bethesda rig is for sale in Kankakee, ILL. , a 1981 ALF Century that was E61 for 10 years, and then a spare. It is believed this engine was donated to Seneca Rocks VFD in WVA in the late 1990s, but wasn't there long, and obviously ended up in Kankakee. The KFD union was using this engine...

Sometimes at a fire scene you get potpourri; on 7/23/1992, lightning struck a small horse barn on Sweetwater Drive in the Redland area between Gaithersburg and Sandy Spring. Because of other calls, the first 4 Montgomery units on the scene were: From nearby GWGVFD Sta. 28; A289 - 1 member BR28 -...

CSX RR bridge catches fire in Havre De Grace, MD.

A fast response by land and water units contained a crosstie fire on the huge RR bridge just up the Susquehanna River from the town. A mini-pumper made its way to the end of the bridge for first attack, while the boat was responding and positioning. After knockdown, CSX maintenance trucks...

Sometimes in life you see the same thing again at a different place; in the late 1980s and early 1990s I was a courier visiting the NIH campus in Bethesda twice a day, I often saw BFD CO.20 hit the street with this 1986 Seagrave HB 1500/750/60, when I got a decent camera in 1991 this was 1 of my...

This 1986 restaurant fire on Veirs Mill Rd. in Rockville was the 1st Montco working fire that I got to actually watch for awhile, as my employer at the time was nearby. IIRC it was at least 2 alarms, and now you know why TRK 6 (Sally) stank of smoke when it was received from Rockville. I really...

The last of 4 rigs donated by MCDFRS in 1996-7 also turned out to have a strange outcome, this Seagrave from Co. 15 was a 1986 1500/750/60 that was replaced in 1996. Apparently it had major mechanical issues and was flatbedded to Tower Hill #2 VFC in Fayette Co.,PA. where the members would...

Apparatus from Carroll, Frederick, and Washington Counties in Maryland

New Spartan/4-Guys engine for Hagerstown,MD. more details later. Pic by HFD's Trayer Stoops First of 3 similar units, this will be known as Reserve 2 and will be a floating reserve engine, and will also be field-tested by all 5 engine companies. HFD and Chief Steve Lohr have apparently decided...

    Montgomery County, Md. fire apparatus

By the late 80s, the converted mini-pumper was overloaded and wearing out, so plans were drawn up for a new haz-mat rig. Meanwhile, Washington Gas donated a surplus service truck, which was a 1979 Ford L-700/Stahl. as a second rig to take some weight off the Chevy. This truck went in service...

Hazmat 1 is listed in a 1984 county roster, running with this rig. I'm thinking before 1982, Fairfax started theirs in 1980.

When was the hazmat team formed? The rig was a 1976 Chevy C-50/Firemaster 300/400 midi pump, not sure why CJVFD thought buying this was a good idea.

    Montgomery County, Md. fire apparatus

Here's a favorite that may have gotten away... after many decades of Seagrave and Pirsch engines, Chevy Chase FD surprised many by obtaining this 1979 Mack CF 1250/500/40 in the slime flavor, rather than CCFD' previous school-bus yellow. However the rig proved its worth, and after replacement in...

    IH - INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER:

1977 IH L-1700 4X4/Reading, x-Virginia Beach ,VA Rescue Squad. Replaced by the 86 Ford/E1, it bounced around as a spare, but by 1990 it was gone. In 1991, however, I found it 4-sale and sitting along US40 in the Elkton,MD. area
