Wichita, Kansas, Fire Department ordered two 100-foot aerial platforms between 1982 and 1983.  They were 1983 and 1984 models with 1250 and 1500 gpm pumps and 300 gallon water tanks.  They were assigned as AP1 and AP9.

Area Served;  City of Wichita, Kansas, with automatic aid agreements to respond into Sedgwick County Fire District #1.  Population 389,000.  Area; 142 square miles.

Services provided;  Fire suppression, medical first response, rescue services.  Fire prevention and inspection.  EMT to paramedic level medical response.  Basic to technical rescue including high angle, low angle, confined space, and Urban Search and Rescue.  Hazardous materials response to technician level.  Regional training at WFD Regional Training Center including live burns.

AM General was originally a supplier of military 6x6 vehicles in 2 1/2 to 5 ton capacity.
Today, many retired military rigs are being used for firefighting.
