Bay City, Michigan Chief Engineer Badge

A beautiful hand made silver Chief Engineer badge from Bay City, Michigan. This badge was owned and worn by Chief Engineer Thomas Kelly Harding. The badge measures 3 1/8” tall by 2” wide. This fine badge shows the remains of a gold wash in the eagle’s wings and on the back. A chief’s five bugle gold insignia forms the center of the badge. Four blue enamel ribbons are applied, two above and two below the insignia. The ribbons read, from top to bottom, Chief – Engineer – Bay City – F. D. The ribbons all exhibit some enamel loss. The badge has a t-pin with a protected C-catch. There is no hallmark. The eagle is hand chased and also bears a ribbon, but with no lettering. This badge dates from the 1880’s.
