I like this, thank you.  Don't quote me but I believe that Engine/Rescue 35 is a 1250/500/150.

Thanks for the info on ER35. Did you get my Allegany County book yet?
Here's a rig from a dept. and town that no longer exist; Beryl, WV was located across the Potomac from Bloomington,MD and Luke, MD. The vfc burned down with the apparatus inside back around 1974-75, they were then donated the 1941 Diamond T/Oren from LaVale VFD in Allegany Co., and had a one-bay shed with a huge siren on top. Westvaco paper mill (now New Page mill) bought the entire town site, razed all the buildings, and put in a woodchip yard by the late 1970s.
Pic1: 1929 Seagrave, orig. Romney,WV, then Beryl, then New Creek briefly when they started about 1961. Romney has gotten it back now, restored it, and brought it this year to the Apple Blossom parade in Winchester,VA.

Not yet, I selected 3-5 day shipping so it should [cross my fingers] arrive by Friday.

I've never heard anything about Beryl before! That's really cool!  Then again, that was before the time of most of the Keyser guys I regularly talked to.  I like that old Seagrave, next time I'm up in the Romney area I'm going to have to see if they'll show her off.

I was always wondering who made Engine/Tanker 35.  I dunno why they call it 35-20 rather than something between 35-10 and 35-19 though.  Are they taking care of that old LaFrance?  It looks like it but I've never seen here in any parade.

And my book finally came in today! I love it! You did an excellent job!  Probably the most interesting rig in the book, IMO, was Potomac's squad truck that became a tanker for McCoole, that and Cumberland's tiller have had very interesting histories.

35-20 is numbered in the old system for both Allegany County and Mineral Co. Twenty-series apparatus were anything with tanker capabilities, whether it was an engine tanker like 35-20, a small square tanker w/pump like Keyser's (formerly 33-20), or a big round tank like Burlington.
Many companies in Mineral and Hampshire Counties were dispatched starting in the 1970's by the Allegany Co. Civil Defense 911 center.
Only in the past few years have the Tri-state vfds started simplifying radio designations to match those used here in Central MD.

Thanks for the book comments; it was a labor of love, it sure didn't make many $.
It took me over 15 years to accumulate the photos, and about 6 months to put the book together.

Short Gap VFD was founded in 1947, built their 1st station, and got their 1st new truck by 1954.
This is a 1955 photo of the new 1954 GMC, which I believe had an American body. After retirement in the late 1970's, the stripped chassis was used at a sawmill near Grantsville,MD.
WW Jenkins collection
This x-Scottdale 1956 FWD 750/500 engine was also used by Short Gap, I am not sure if it was before or after Cumb. Valley PA had it. J. Floyd photo, Jenkins collection
Short Gap got this 1985 GMC/Grumman 1000/800 and relaced it in 1998.
This 1969 GMC/FTI 750/300 engine was received from Patuxent Naval Air Sta. thru gov't surplus around 1992 to serve as a backup eng, and brush, but I don't believe it ever saw service.

Short Gap's 1st new piece since the 54 GMC was this 1973 IH L-1700/E.W. Stinebaugh 500/1500, it served until delivery of SGVFD's latest Pierce. WW Jenkins photo
This was a durable, rugged vehicle, note the front bumper, V. McLaughlin photo, Jenkins collection

See the misc. manufacturers category for more on Stinebaugh, built in Great Cacapon,Morgan Co.,WV

Short Gap's original station, built in the late 1940's and added onto at least once in the next 30 years, became inadequate by the 1990's. Here in 1992 the 1985 Chevy G-30 Panel utility sits outside.
Anothe view of the 1985 Chevy utility; 33 did you know Short Gap was once on Rescue 911?

I still go by the old numbering system.  To me the ladder truck is "33-50" not "Truck 33" and the tanker is "33-20".  I call the squad "33-40" when it's technically not called that.  Calling the rig 35-20 rather than, say 35-12 was what confused me.  And no I didn't know Short Gap was on Rescue 911!   I'm going to try to find that episode now!  Short Gap is a great company, I've got to spend a lot of time there when I took Firefighter II class.

Opening up the doors at Wiley Ford,WV's "annex" revealed these 2 oldies in June 1992, a 1962 CHEVYC-60/Central 500/750 and a 1951 Studebaker/FD built 250PP/360 which had the body built by vol. members who worked at the B&O RR shops just across the Potomac River in South Cumberland,MD.

The first one is the old 27-11 I believe, which was replaced by an HME/4-Guys (don't quote me lol).  But the second, now she's a beauty.  I love Studebaker trucks! I've heard their guys talk a lot about this rig but I've never seen it! Thank you!

I also got it in 1997, a little faded, and a few other changes...
It's still in service, I like a rig that's still going & is older than me!  ;D

Ridgeley, WV used to be another RR town, with the yards, engine terminal, and shops of the Western Maryland RWY. Ridgeley is about 100 yds. from Cumberland,MD. across the Potomac River
The vfd started about 1925 and in 1926 a Seagrave engine was bought.
In 1949, a crew-cab Mack L-85 750/300 engine was placed in service. This engine has been privately owned since 1976, and has been displayed in at least 2 museums.Photo 1; my collection; Photo2: WW Jenkins photo
In 1964, a Ford C-750/Central 750/500 engine was purchased. J. Woods slide, Jenkins collection
