What was the purpose of the mini-pumpers? Did these run as two piece companies or were they brush trucks? Thanx in advance.

This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions!
What do you mean "biblical"?
What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor. Real wrath of God type stuff! Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness, earthquakes, and volcanos! The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifices, dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria!

I like those old Howe's.  Well not old then.  Howe many did Muskogee run and how many are still around?
Also, did Muskogee run three man engine companies or did they put guys on the tailboard?

The ones you see here are all they had.  None are left in service anywhere that I know of.

They stopped riding the tailboard here in the mid-'80s.

Drat.  Those are very nice rigs!  I've always been a fan of Howe.

Here is a factory photo of one of these girls.  The booster hose was originally in a tray over the pump; reels were added later.  I never knew they had overhead ladders until I acquired this photo:

The aerial, torque box, and outriggers were remounted in 1985 on a new Pierce Arrow chassis.  Pierce built a new body around the old aerial assembly.  In 1991 the Grove aerial was replaced by a 75' Smeal stick.  Unfortunately, I never got to shoot the Pierce/Grove combination.  Here's how she looks today:

Except for having the boom refurbished back in the '90s, this one hasn't had many changes.  The only upgrades seen in the current photo (below) are a repainted cab and an electronic siren speaker.

This and the Pierce aerial were both replaced last month; it's unclear which of the older rigs will be kept for a reserve rig.
