Well all this time now (over a year) and I just finally stumbled onto this post. A few items to point out Detroit had lots of these units in service at one time. The two trucks here I'm 95% sure are different rigs.
If we could see the apparatus # in Steves pic that would clear it up. The first one is App #162 or 182. DFD Apparatus are assinged a App # when put in service and for the most part that # stays with the truck its entire life.
The Seagraves name plates are in different locations on the grill. This barring a rebuild means they are 61 or newer. With the first one most likely being a 1965 which would make it one of the last 3 Safety Sedans purchased by the DFD. The other one would then be 61-63 since DFD received no Safety Sedans in 64. I'm not sure they received any in 61 either since I'm moving my records are scattered.
The first units wheels are all red where Steves unit has chrome trim. Steves trucks wipers are mounted above the window while the other engines are mounted below the window. But these could all be shop changes.
Looking thru my pics of the apparatus building and surrounding background buildings I would date the first truck pic to the 70's.

1 of 2 Purchased That Year
This pumper was originally assigned to Engine 25. When the 25's were disbanded at the beginning of 1975 their apparatus was reassigned to Engine 35. The company number had not been changed on the doors of the apparatus when I took this photo in the summer of '75.

The Schuylkill Historical Fire Society and the Shenandoah (Pennsylvania) Fire Department will be hosting a "Happy 50th Birthday Party" on October 9, 2004, for Shenandoah's two 1954 Seagraves open cab pumpers. These pumpers have consecutive serial numbers and have faithfully served this department for 50 years! The Seagraves were purchased for the Polish-American Fire Company #4 and the Phoenix Fire Company #2 of Shenandoah. The Phoenix' Seagrave is still in active fire service while the Polish-American's is used for public relation/ special events only. Both pumpers have their original V-12 gas engines.
A parade and celebration will commence at 1 P.M. at the Schuylkill Historical Fire Museum - 105 South Jardin Street in Shenandoah. Commemorative glass mugs, refreshments, and a museum open house will be held. Additionally, an 1899 American La France chemical/hose wagon and a 1974 CF Mack will be officially welcomed to the museum at this time.
Any Gamewell lovers? Shenandoah is still served by its Gamewell Street Box System and Diaphone Air Horn. Shenandoah fire stations still use their original Gamewell 19th Century house bells and indicators!!! A box test will be done at 12 noon. Please email any questions to me. Everyone is invited!
Sincerely,
Mike Kitsock, President
Schuylkill Historical Fire Society

One of the last pumpers to roll off of the Columbus line before closing. This a 1964 Brockway/Seagrave, 1000GPM-500gal. tank. It had a 250 Cummins engine with a 5 speed/2 speed rearend transmission that was a blast to drive and pump.
Owned by Bowie Md. VFD and still quartered at Co. 39 for parades.

And here is it's brother, another 1964 Brockway/Seagrave 750 GPM pumper that served as Bowie's Engine 191. Today, it serves Norlina, NC as Engine 22. It is powered by an 8V-53 Detroit Diesel engine with dual chrome exhaust stacks. The original 500 gallon tank was replaced with a 750 gallon tank a few years ago.

It used to be common for fire apparatus to be delivered by rail. These photos show a 1950 Seagrave, serial #E 6920, being delivered to National City, California.

This photo does not identify the year but I think it was in the early 60's. Quincy, Mass was the home of this scarce variation of a Seagrave 70th Anniversary model, with foam equipment (remote control rooftop monitor and front bumper foam nozzles.
