In reference to Bala Cynwyd, PA pipeline 28, what make of apparatus did it replace? I have a picture of their tower but I forgot what else they had in station.

Thanks
RDW

They have a 1992 KME pumper, but I don't think it is being retired anytime soon. I was told they are going back to being a two-engine company.

Covington, KY took delivery of a pair of Seagrave pumpers for Engine 1 and Engine 6 in November of 2008.  Engine 6 is shown shortly after going into service.

The twin to Engine 6 is Engine 1, seen here operating at the same structure fire as the photo above.

PRP and Highview have both placed in service new Seagrave Marauder II 75-foot Meanstick quints.

Seagrave is also building a pumper for Fern Creek and 4 engines and a 100-foot TDA for Louisville.

Thanks for the info, one of these days I'll have enough time driving through to stop off for photos!

The new Seagrave pumper truck assigned to Sycamore Township Engine 92.  The previous Engine 92 has been reassigned to Engine 93.  As compared to the previous apparatus, Sycamore went with a short wheelbase design for better maneuverability on residential streets.  A 200' attack line was added to the front bumper to facilitate quick response to small fires and car accidents.

Good question, and no, the new engine does not have transport capabilities.  With the mutual aid agreements in place with neighboring communities, Sycamore found that they were not using this feature very much, there are always plenty of transport units available.

Also, Sycamore recently signed a new operating agreement along with Blue Ash, Sharonville and Loveland - Symmes called the Northeast Fire Collaborative.  The agreement is designed to enhance response times and goes a step beyond normal mutual aid - when a call comes in, the nearest station responds regardless of jurisdiction.  So for example, if the call comes in from Sycamore Township but Sharonville Station 88 is the closest station, then Sharonville would respond.  If they are not available then the next closest station responds.

I did hear about that agreement, and it is a hell of a good idea. I have a feeling that more and more areas are gonna start doing agreements like that. It may not be tomorrow, but I think soon you will see it become more common. I also think that you will see departments starting to merge with other departments and making districts or county departments. I know in the Akron & Cleveland area there are several areas looking at making large fire districts.

Yes, I do agree it is a good idea, especially because I forgot to mention in addition to enhancing response times the departments will have more group training and standardized operating procedures including RIT which will help increase firefighter safety.
