You are correct about that being a Union Pacific facility.  I have the same photo, in additon to one of the members of the UP fire department from May 1875.

Pennsylvania/Penn Central/Conrail Fire house at the Altoona locomotive shops, Altoona, PA.
The rig that ran out of there for almost 50 years is this 1941 Mack L-85 750/150 (Thanks, Leo Duliba!) that was restored a few years ago. It is now housed and maintained by the Altoona FD. I was lucky to get good photos back in 2004 at a parade in Bedford,PA.

Interesting topic. Maybe someone here knows, but did Pullman have it's own firehouse in Chicago or Hammond IN? I vaguely recall hearing that.

I am not aware if Pullman did.   However, several railroads back in the day had their own in-house fire departments.

If you ever come across the January 1988 issue of Fire Apparatus Journal there appears an article on railway fire firefighting vehicles.  I was one of the co-authors along with three other guys.

Think there was/is a steamer on display at the B&O RR Museum in Baltimore which I believe came from the B&O Shops.

This 1879 LaFrance steamer and hose cart served the B&O shops in Cumberland,MD. from 1879-1908. Cumberland started a paid FD in 1906, and the B&O utilized an employee fire brigade using a number of tiny hose houses equipped with a reel of hose and a simple hydrant. The steamer was moved to the Baltimore shops, but saw little,if any use.
Unfortunately, this old relic was reportedly heavily damaged by the 2/03 B&O museum roof collapse, anyone know its current status?

As a kid in the 1950s I visited the Boston and Maine Railroad maintenance shops
in Billerica, MA. I remember that they had two fire trucks in one of the shops.
Unfortunately, I don't remember what they were except that one was a 1930s
(Seagrave??) and the other was a commercial (GMC??). They also had hose
houses throughout the yard. Anyone else remember the maintenance yard (now
Iron Horse Industrial Park)??

The photo was taken in 1975 at Baltimore's inner harbor.  The large building to the rear of the rig is the former power plant for the United Traction Company.
