This style of Faraday box has the hook exposed as there is no outer door.

A closeup from the same ad as was posted on September 22, 2002 which shows the interior of a Faraday alarm box.  I'm not keen on the mechanics of how this alarm equipment operates so I need to ask two questions (1) what is the large "arm" on the exterior door for and (2) is that a bell in the exterior door and if so, again, why such a large size?

Replies welcomed.....

A long overlooked e-mail from November 5, 2007 provided the following information.  "The huge handle on the outside is the actuating lever. It would lock in the down position making it obvious the box was pulled.  The bell inside is an attempt at reducing false alarms.  It is a mechanical (wind up) bell mechanism which would sound for several (10-15?) seconds when the box was pulled, to attract attention to the culprit if it was false, and, I guess, provided some feedback to the user that the alarm was sent (?). Its loud -- I've got one. The alarm would have to be manually reset (small hook on door) and rewound, as would the box.  Steve C."

Thanks Steve C.!
