I really like those small warning lights on the bumper of the Northern Hills quint.

Those are Federal #18 Solar Ray lights (beam moved up and down).

That Decatur 85' snorkel on a single axle must have been a bear to drive - that got to be an all time record overhang!  I don't recall seeing any other 85' snorkels on a single axle.
I think that it came down to specs and spending the money for that additional axle.  The front overhang on both of these rigs is bad, but the Silver Hill boom gets there several minutes before the rig! :o

Thanks for the identification Steve, those are sharp looking lights.

This 1969? Pirsch pic from Ebay, Can't say I realy care for the color scheme....

Does anyone out there have or know of any info involving the possible current location of this vehicle? If it's still out there, I'm looking to find out where it is for purchase and restoration purposes. Thank You - email is firetim82@yahoo.com

I think the Federal Propello-Ray, where the sealed beam spun on its centerline , was also made in the same housing as the Solar-Ray, or also in the front of a Federal siren.  Manufacture of Propello Rays may have stopped once Solar Ray became popular.  I recall one c1950 rig with a Propello-Ray  in its Siren

Here is a link to clip of Propello Ray  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7HssXNMVzc

1959 Diamond T /Pirsch 1000/500 built for Canton Township Station #1, North Industry, Ohio
Repainted yellow approximately 1984, destroyed in a rollover accident in 1986, five firefighters aboard, all treated and released- a great testament to the crew cab design.
A great engine to work off- came with a Hall Scott engine, which is unusual for Ohio, but was likely due to an affiliation with Hercules Engines of Canton and Hall Scott at that time.
