Mr. Ricker:

I read the post regarding the East Grand Rapids MI
1921 REO-Boyer with great interest! This was the
very first motorized apparatus that the FD purchased.
It originally was just a chemical engine and the front
mounted pump was added at a later date.

This apparatus is still in existence in its original condition
including the paint and gold leaf. The chemical tank and
fixtures are still in place along with most of the original
small tools and equipment. The pump still works!

This apparatus was owned by one of the Founding Members
of the Old Dominion Historical Fire Society and upon this
member's passing the apparatus was bequeathed to our
organization.

This engine has a cast-iron medallion #1 on the front as that
was the customary way of EGRFD numbering its apparatus
back then. (I think I have seen #2 shown elsewhere on this
website, but I believe it is/was a different manufacturer.)

We actively display, parade and exhibit this articfact at many
events around the state of Virginia each year.  It is presently
housed in a fire station in the Virginia Beach area.

This vehicle is in marvelous shape to be over 90 years old
and used as much as it has!

Hope this information helps. Here are a few pics of it out and about.
