Campbell to lay off FF's
« on: September 15, 2002, 08:51:58 PM »
Campbell, OH is also laying of some of it's firefighters due to financial difficulties :(  Evan, how is this affecting you. I heard the news say that all the Auxiliary firefighters were out of jobs come Oct 1. Does that include you or are you guys a third level of protection?

Campbell FD Layoff's

Hi Evan,

Sorry to hear about the layoff's.  This can't be good for you or the citizens of Campbell.

I do have a question.  Are auxilliary FF's the same as part-timers that are used in the Cincinnati area?  They are required to work "X" number of shifts per month to cover openings from the full time members, etc.

Take care,

Steve

hi we dont work in place of the full time firefighters, but we are called out when ever there is an incident that the 3 full time firefighters who are working on the turn can't handle such as a structure fire.

Does that mean that the 3 F/T FF's are going to have to handle every run or call for mutual aid?

Wow, sounds kind of scary to think they will only have 2 firefighters responding. They sure can't do much at most calls until mutual aid arrives. Who is Campbell's main mutual aid partners? Are they called directly for reports of a structure fire? And, were you guys paid? Can't they resort to a volunteer status, so they can continue to have the auxillaries, albeit unpaid?

Does anyone know where Campbell's new E-One Engine is right now? Last time I was around there it looked like the old engine was moved up to frontline status again.

Campbell City Workers Paid Late For Second Week In A Row
« Reply #10 on: April 15, 2004, 07:31:45 PM »
From the WFMJ TC 21 Website on 4/15/2004...

Campbell City Workers Paid Late For Second Week In A Row

Campbell city workers are depositing their paychecks.

For the second time in a row, the city paid its workers one week late.

Meanwhile, firefighters are fighting for their jobs.

They hope city council will approve a deal to save their jobs from the chopping block.

Firefighters are offering to accept concessions if the city agrees to refrain from laying off three members of the fire department.

Yeah, that is just what Youngstown needs... a crappy economy, an out of work blue-collar town with little to offer in terms of improvement. We have enough of that on our own, thanks!

Btw: I love Youngstown like I love my family. It is an absolutely great town (with some big problems), but certainly a nice place to grow up in.

I agree with Joe, two wrongs don't make a right.  Youngstown is a city in big trouble and Campbell is in even bigger trouble.
