Girl Rescued From Youngstown Fire Dies
Story from the WFMJ TV21 Web Site on 7/12/2007.

A 12-year-old girl pulled from her burning home in May has lost her battle to survive.

Derrisha Brown had been hospitalized at Saint Elizabeth's since May 30th. She and her grandmother had both been rescued by Youngstown firefighters, when their McCartney Road home went up in flames.

Fire investigators say the blaze was caused by children playing with a cigarette lighter.

House fire in May on East Side claims life of girl, 12
Story by Patricia Meade in the Youngstown Vindicator on 7/12/2007.

YOUNGSTOWN — The house fire at 2486 McCartney Road on May 23 has claimed the life of 12-year-old Daresha Brown, said fire Capt. Alvin Ware. He said the girl died Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Health Center. Her grandmother, Marleen Felder, 54, who uses a wheelchair, was transferred to a nursing home after being hospitalized, Ware said. The fire was caused by boys playing with a lighter that ignited their toy box.
