East Liverpool used to have a Gamewell system. Their fire department has a small museum inside filled with old memorabilia and pieces from the Gamewell system.

Here's the original Gamwell panel. It's the only one of it's kind still intact in the US. This thing is massive.

I can confirm that there are no boxes operating in Hillsboro. However the Gamewell Gong is returning to service in a new staion currently under construction. The gong will operate off of our dispatch tones. Thanks to all that has helped me locate parts to make this happen. I believe I have found an old pedestal that may have held a fire alarm box. Pics will be posted as soon as I get them.

Hillsboro Ohio had them up into the 1940's. Unknown yet when they officially took them out of service.

Fire alarm operator at work, possibly at Massillon, Ohio.

Steve,

Looking very close at the photo, I don't think this was in Massillon.  The original watch desk was between the west and center bay doors.

May 28, 1945:  Massillon Evening Independent

Contract for equipment for a new central office unit to be installed on the second 'floor of Central fire station for more efficient receipt and transmission of fire alarm was awarded Thursday by the board of control to the Gamewell Co., of Pittsburgh, Pa., on a bid of $5,990. Purchase of the equipment was authorized by city council at a recent meeting. Equipment to be furnished under the contract will consist of master panel, five box panels, alarm panel, relay, high-rate rectifier, set of tools and spare parts, four-section battery rack, low-rate rectifier, register with plug and cord, 44 additional I.C.S. batteries and 12 Bl-S batteries. The company also will provide the services of an engineer to supervise the work of the installation. The equipment will be installed by City Electrician. Ivan Getz and his assistant, Louis Sefmetz.

Practically all equipment to the fire department's alarm system was purchased, from the Gamewell Co. The new. equipment together with the new alarm center and watch station at the No. 1 fire station will give the department an up-to-date and efficient alarm system. The new equipment among other things will operate automatically, repeat (box alarms and condition stations) to receive alarms from broken circuits.

A busy streetcorner in Dayton is the location where the young gent is resting his hand on an alarm box as the cars of the Ohio Electric Railway pass by.
