Good thing it's not in service.. cause that would be a sight to see on a fire scene.  Not sure which is worse..lime green trucks or pink.  Would be kinda cool to go to dinner in it. I can imagine the look on the guy's face, outside the resturant, when you tell him to park it.

It looks to be a firly new rig. I wonder why it's pink
and why it's not in service. Private owner?

Hi,

Like Twig mentioned I think this rig looks kinda new to be out of service as a party barge.  Both of these pieces have windows in the body (is there a living room/bedroom in there   ).  Were they built as entertainment vehicles or are they conversions of rigs that were in service?

More importantly, do they serve food on board and if so what type of cuisine is available?

Hello,

Well I'm hardly an expert on British appliances (Fire Trucks).  I can tell you a few things.

First the builder was Saxon which is now out of business around 2004-5 If I recall Correctly.

The Chassis is a Volvo FL6 which looks to be around an early to mid 90's product.  Not sure on the age mostly an educated guess.  They were offered from my research from 1986-1998.

Most UK units are now built on the Scania 94D (6 cylinder 9 liter 260 bhp) or Dennis "ML" (Cummins 6 cyl 240 bhp) Chassis.

I tend to like the looks of the Dennis over the Scannia and I would think from my PICS that the Dennis has better line of sight and interior room.  Currently E-One & JDC=John Dennis Coach Builders are the mfg's of choice in the UK.

As for service life I can't tell you how long one lasts over there.  But I can tell you I have a photo of a 2003 Scania 94D/E-One that was refurbed in 2006.  I do beleive that the UK has been making big strides to replace older units in the past deade.

Now on to the Pink truck it is a Limo inside and after looking at the chassis I would bet it's a early to mid 90's unit.  This was a PRL (Pump Rescue Ladder) by Stradfordshire Fire & Rescue Service terms.  It was more than likely equipped with a 1500-2000 Liter pump, Ground Ladders, and full rescue equipment.

Now that you know more than you probably cared to.  Here's a PICS of the inside.  BTW They also have a pink ambulance!

OK, I've heard a rumor I want to clear up.  I've been hearing on an FD down south (the most common story is Florida) that runs pink trucks.  Several people have stated that they're built by KME and at least one is called the "Pink Panther".

This is the first I've heard of this and after over 25 years of shooting apparatus across the South, I doubt that it is true.  There is, however, a pink (mostly white) apparatus named the "Pink Panther", but it is from Pennsylvania.  I'll post a shot soon.

After thinking about this some more, maybe the story was about the "PINK HEALS" apparatus, those used for breast cancer fundraising.  There is an ever-growing fleet of pink apparatus that carry signatures/memorials of breast cancer survivors and victims, that tour the country each summer.  Here's the only one I've shot so far:
