Fire department investigates garage blazes
Story from the Youngstown Vindicator on 9/22/3006.
SALEM — One resident lost $15,000 in tools in one of two garage fires under investigation by the city fire department.
Firefighters said they could see the fire at 178 Woodland Ave. when they pulled out of the fire station around 7:10 p.m. Thursday. In addition to the tools, damage to the garage is estimated at about $2,000. The two-car garage was detached, but firefighters had to keep the fire from spreading to a deck about 8 feet away. The cause is undetermined. They were at the scene about an hour.
In another blaze, firefighters were called to 189 E. Third St. around 12:30 a.m. Thursday. A one-car attached garage was destroyed. They said occupants escaped the home, the rear of which suffered some fire damage. Firefighters, who were on the scene about three hours, did not have a loss estimate and are still seeking the cause.
