Fire crew rescues man, child
Story from the Warren Tribune Chronicle on 6/8/2006.
YOUNGSTOWN — Firefighters had to rescue a sleeping man and a 4-year-old child early Tuesday evening after a fire in the basement of a South Side home caused around $1,000 in damage.
Arson Investigator Lt. Kevin Johnson said crews were called to 412 Midlothian Blvd. about 7:20 p.m. by a neighbor who said the home was on fire. Attempts to wake up 29-year-old Mark Britt Jr. and a 4-year-old child were unsuccessful, report said.
The two were sleeping on a couch when the fire broke out. Firefighters woke them up and took them outside while the put out the fire, which was contained to the basement.
The cause of the fire is accidental, Johnson said. He did not elaborate.
About 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, a 259 Gaither Ave. home that had caught fire four times was set ablaze a fifth time, Johnson said. That fire to the vacant home caused $3,000 in damages. No one was injured, Johnson said.
