Why not get commercial cabs if the dept. can't afford A/C for the guys? I cant stand "cheapness" on the part of any city government. Your buying a fire truck maybe every 10 years vs. garbage trucks or police cars every few years. I'd bet the mayor gets a new ride every year or two.

Dared to stop in the rear parking lot of YFD No1 station. saw a curious thing...a truck with a 3 on it...was confused...then I got closer and lo and behold--the ''former'' tele-squrt had now become a longish regular triple combination pumper. But why no more boom 50'?Found out later the boom dont work no more haha so off it came and caput...and thats NOT the original 1989 boom its a replacement for it after a crash that ruined the original one.
Also beyond easy access 2 more former trucks...ex-spare 3 and ex-spare 5...a 1978/96 mack CF and 1980/81 Mack MC stripped to the bone and awaiting sale as who knows?? But doubtful as fire apparatus.
A ride past 7's en route to downtown produced no truck so after downtown on to the South side no2 station. A buzz and the door opened and I asked to see the new delivery. Fireman Kurt age 32 graciously gave me the tour of the new Eng 2 truck asserting that the raised roof is higher than the previous Eng 2 Custom Contender.
Also minor changes--no electric outlets in the body of the truck or wells for bottle
O2 storage. Ladder in the hose body to the right at par with the hose and not under it like some truck are having done.
Asked bout former 2's and it is at 9's. Former 9's to 15's since their truck's pump is not up to par so looks like 15's to reserve or spare and that's not the first time for a 15 to go to spare. Also 7's ex is at 3's and 6 and 12 are status quo.
Future is for a new Bat2 this year and a new ladder 24 at some unkown future point and old ladd24 to be gone when ever a new one is obtained. New 9 station at the park owned by the city but not sure when. Also since 15 is running with an unrestored 1987 dash it will have to wait till after the new ladd24 deal is done when maybe 3's will get a quint and then 3's to 12 and 12 to 15.
Bad news concerning Tony Brown. His 'back' problem turned out to be more than a mere slipped disc. He has a serious health issue which is being treated aggressively.
He really is one of the nicest guys to ever be on the YFD. Best wishes to old friend TB.

So you mean to tell me that my beloved 1989 Pierce Arrow is kaput? I still have two pictures of that truck on my wall. It was the first fire truck I ever rode in, in 1990 when it was at #7. So sad...

It was sitting in the area next to the stripped trucks which are awaiting purchase but it will remain as a spare minus the boom which has been removed. So u have that and ex-9's 1987 dash and the 1982 mack mc as spares.
i think it should have gone to 15 since the boom is gone and old 9 now 15 to spare

I know where the 80/81 Mack is at. Our fearless webmaster bought it and with some expert help, or as close as he can get LOL, he is fixing it up.
