Dauphin County (Harrisburg Area)
« on: July 18, 2005, 09:49:01 AM »
Well still a few holes in this one, but pretty complete.  Most of the holes come form Airport and Government Departments.  Some area history first.

Dauphin County is one of the oldest counties in our nation. Located in south central Pennsylvania, this 557.7-square-mile area is approximately 100 miles west of Philadelphia and 200 miles east of Pittsburgh. By an act of the General Assembly of March 4, 1785, Dauphin County was established.  The county was named "Dauphin," in honor of the eldest son of the King of France, who had come to the aid of the American colonies during the American Revolution.

Harrisburg is the hub of a metropolitan region having over 600,000 people. Located on the east bank of the 3,000-foot-wide Susquehanna River in south central Pennsylvania, Harrisburg is the largest city on the main course of the Susquehanna to which its identity is inherently linked.

The city is also a center of government, serving both as state capital and seat of Dauphin County.

Progress FC
Punxstawney Central FD tanker 20 on stand by at Progress. Yes you heard me right. In Sept 2011 Dauphin County was hammered with major flooding. Several tankers, multiple swift water rescue teams were brought in too assist with the flooding and related issues. Hershey was one of the hardest hit areas. Hershey ran about 300 calls from Wednesday afternoon till late Sunday.
