Star Equipment

From the October 6, 1915 issue of Fire ' Water Engineering comes this ad for Star Equipment.  This is another alarm manufacturer that must have been pretty low volume.
The ad does state that 118 boxes were being installed in the Brooklyn subway tunnel.

I'm not really sure.  That's the fun part about this "disease", there is always something to learn.

I just picked up this Star alarm station today.  It's small, measuring 4 1/2" x 6" and an 1 1/2" deep.  Three keys are needed for this piece.  One to trigger the alarm from the outside, a key to open the door, and there is a small key type slot on the back of the casing with the mechanism.

My guess would be that this was an interior pull station, who knows, maybe it came from that tunnel in Brooklyn!  If anyone can provide any clues as to the key types, please let me know!

This Star alarm box is being offered on Ebay.  Unfortunately the original mechanism has been removed and replaced with a Gamewell set.  Still a rare item.

They did not move they just added another plant around 1914 to take care of the 300% jump in orders for their equipment. It was shortly thereafter that Gamewell
bought them out as they were making tremendous in roads against them.
Star equipment marked Newark is fairly hard to find as a result of the short manufacturing span.

This panoramic photo shows the 10 pieces of American LaFrance apparatus that were used for fire protection during the Panama Pacific International Exposition which was the Worlds Fair held in San Francisco during 1915.  This photo was an advertising piece for Star.  The message underneath the photo states "Review of the model fire department at the Panama Pacific International Exposition - All fire and police alarms transmitted through a complete Star Electric installation".  On each end of the illustration there is a pedestal mounted Star alarm box.
