lol, you aint sh%^ing.

I can't say that about all of the them thought.  We has an asst chief who just recently retired.  Unless he was ripping your ass about something you would have never thought he was a chief.  he would sit and drink coffee with us and ask if we needed anything.  he was a great chief.

There needs to be a way we can tell these people to call a real cab, and not the cabulance.  I did 12 EMS runs the other day and only 2 were legit emergencies.  The cops don't help either.  If they don't want to deal with a drunk they call us.  We get there and they say "this guys drunk and needs to go to the hospital."  For what reason?!  So he can sleep it off in the ER and tie up a bed for 8 to 12 hours instead of someone who may actually need it?!  When you know your patients by name, birthday, and address I think there may be abuse of the system.  I had a drunk the other night who called from a pay phone at a gas station stating he had chest pain.  When we show up no one is around.  Then this guy walks out from between 2 buildings, crosses the street, and almost becomes a grease spot on the street.  Then when I talk to him he says he is drunk, did a lot of drugs, and says he's fine and walks off.  We tried to follow him, along with 2 police units, and disappears.  He proceeds to call 911 four more times giving bogus complaints, such as being "shot in the face."  When the cops finally catch up to him, instead of taking him to jail, they call us!  When I talk to him again he tells me we drove off and he had to chase us because we wouldn't help him.  So of couse we take him to the ER to tie up a bed so he can sleep it off.  What was his true complaint you ask?  He was in fight with a guy at the bar he was getting wasted at and had a cut on his chin!  Until we can figure out a way to refuse these bogus calls, I say if you can keep from doing EMS keep it that way.  I was a big proponent of EMS for the YFD in the beginning and I started this topic.  But the rewards just don't add up.

We are pretty lucky when it comes to our cops. They actually want the perps to go to jail instead of the ER. We also have a fairly busy city jail, which we run to a couple of times a shift.  These POS know how to play the game, so they try the old "I've got chest pain". But we're able to call the ER and see if the Docs want them transported.  Usually we can paint the right picture and the Docs tell us to leave them in jail. We have also started a system where the perps receive more charges if they claim an injury/illness but leave the ER AMA. And if the suspects just have a minor issue, one not requiring a medic ride, the cops transport them.
