I have noticed that as of late, YFD ha been responding to some jobs with both ladders. Can anyone explain why this is? Is this a change in response?

Hi!
Just out of curiosity, how many folks are actually responding on the engines and trucks and rescue? Could it be a staffing issue to get enough truckies to the scene?

Problem figured out. L-24 was involved in an accident, and so they are responding with one of the spare engines. Therefore, L-22 has to respond as well in case the bucket is needed. 22 is responding citywide, first due ladder on the north, east and lower west, and second due ladder on the south and upper west sides of the city. 22 is the only one responding to its first due area.

Hey Steve, I was talking with some YFD guys about a month or so ago and they said that the squad, Eng 7 and both ladders run 5, which means 4, and the other engines run 4, which means 3 (ya know, vacations and the like). The ladders are the first to get guy when theyare down I beleive. I will double checkthat though.

Ladder 24 is presently assigned a 1981 Mack/MC pumper and is essentially providing only ventilation on structure fires. The new Sutphen tower at Ladder 22 is dispatched citywide and only will respond to Ladder 24's calls IF an aerial device is needed. Talk of temporarily switching the telesqurt from station 7 to Ladder 24 (as was done under a previous fire administration )was squelched almost as soon as it began. So, till April the present arrangement will continue in effect when the rebuilt ladder 24 will be flatbed-trucked up from KME's Richmond , Virginia (formerly I believe Grumman's ) repair facility. The reason for the possible flat-bed trucking procedure is to avoid a repeat of the engine failure which took place when the rig was driven to Virginia from Youngstown adding an additional $15,000 to the already enormous expense of replacing the aerial platform ( basket) of the truck amounting to tens of thousands of dollars.
