YFD and RIT
« on: May 16, 2002, 04:57:25 PM »
I know that Youngstown typically responds thier third-due engine company as a rapid intervention team. Can anyone describe what kind of RIT procedures the YFD uses? Is the RIT hard-fast to their truck until needed or can they engage in other firefighting activities until called? Do they have a special RIT bag with the gear they need or do they simply use what they have in hand? Any details on YFD's RIT  protocol would be helpful. Thanks.

a chief officer with whom i spoke recently led me to believe that the third -in unit may possibly work because i pointed out that ISO requires a 3000 gpm on a commercial structure fire and yfd pumpers are mostly 1250s. he then said that since they respond 3 pumpers that that requirement is thus met so i must assume that the 3rd -in unit is prepared to do what that chief suggested.

BS918 or yfd9engine (or anyone for that matter), any further insight into the YFD Rapid Intervention Team? What type of training does YFD do for its RIT companies?
