Mounting your mobile scanner...

Just interested in seeing how many people out there in cyberspace have a mobile scanner in their vehicle?
I (finally) have a uniden MR-8100 mounting in my 2000 Cavalier. Below are two photos of the rig. I'll have a couple more photos with the wire tubing in place. Haz helped out with this installation.

All that vehicle needs now is a light/siren mounting console in the car. It also would be nice to have YFD lettered on the side of the car. I hope to have a mobile scanner next year sometime. I can see it now, "YFD photo unit responding to the box 5."

I have one that I take in the car with me it fits right in place in the consoul. I have a mobile gain antenna semi-permanetly mounted on the car. Up here in MI we are required to have a State police permit to carry it. If caught without it the penalty is $500.00 and charged with a felony crime.
BTW we need permits for both mobile and in car scanners.

If I am in Michigan, I can officially tell the police where to shove their scanner law .... as a Ham Radio Operators, we are allowed to carry equipment that can listen to public service frequencies per the FCC for Emergency Communications purposes. ( I have the text of that law floating around here somewhere .....)
As for my scanner installation, heres a few pics:

Hazguy I'm sorry I should have included HAM radio operators in there. It kind of slipped my mind.
People overreact to this law, as it's simply a 2-minuet process to fill in the application and one stamp. Lo and behold a week or two later you have your permit.
I have never heard of any out of staters getting harassed by police here in MI. I only got the permit after being told to by an officer while I was pulled over. He never used the law against me except to say other officers would not be so understanding. Every profession has it's donkeys

While surfing, I found this site which does a great job listing the various state scanner laws.
http://www.grove-ent.com/LLawbook.html
Also listed on the site is FCC PR Docket No. 91-36 which exempt amateur radio operators from most if not all state scanner laws. I haven't had a chance to read through it though
Enjoy!

Here is a mounting job in a 2001 Checy Blazer. I don't think there are enough radios in this SUV.

Ok I thought I would update my photo. In addition to the Uniden MR8100 scanner mounted in my vehicle, I've also added a Radio Shack HTX-252 2meter Amature Radio transceiver in my vehicle. As you can see in the photo, I made some slight modifications to the arm holder to accomodate the 252.

I bought a Radio Shack Pro-2066 off of e-bay for two reasons:
1) It has DIN mounting and fits in the dash under the stereo of my Toyota Tacoma.
2) It receives CB channels so I don't have to mount a CB in the truck to listen in when traffic comes to a stop on 80. etc.
I don't have a picture of the install but I see somebody else mounted a scanner in the dash. I run an extention speaker that is mounted on top of the dash so I can hear it better. I used to use a hand held in the truck but the mobile is alot nicer!!!
