Y-Town Fire Test

I'm looking for anyone who could give me some pointers for the written or physical agility test to be given this spring. I heard that the physical agility test is a bear! Would like to start training for the physical agility and start studying for the written. Thanks, Jamie.

Here is something I think you can use. I found my papers from when I took the Firefighters exam in 2000. It contains all the test for the physical portion and some info on what "bonuses" you can get such as military, previous FF training etc. I posted it up as a pdf file on the job opportunities page of youngstownfire.com.

Thanks dude! I looked the over the post, lots of help. I have been taking test for the past two years and the physical agility has never given me a problem... it's been the written. However, the post is still going to help as I am training for the agility. Thanks Again!

Anyone know the status of the test? Are they going to scrap it or what? They already have 15 guys that get called first. Anyone who took the test have any insight or comments.

Since the civil service exam is good for 2 years, I would guess that once the budget crisis is over (whenever that may be) teh original 15 firefighters laid off will be rehired (if they still would like to come back) then the department will begin picking from the current list of new people to begin training. So no, the current list will not be scrapped. Remember 9 people took early retirement so they will (hopefully) be replaced when conditions are more favorable.
And to answer your earlier question, no I did not take the exam this time around.

Well, my sources say that this little crisis will last through the end of 2003. By then, I am guessing that many of the 15 will have new jobs. But even in 2004, things may level off, but can they bring the guys back, or pay for new hires? Only time will tell. I don't see many good things happening for the good numbers on this list.

Well, I'm pleased! I ended up #7 on the current list. I feel pretty confident that if Y-town hire again I'll be one of them. I'm curious as to how well our YFD boys did on the test. You see some of them took the test anticipating layoffs.

 Was anyone ever hired based on the test or did the budget crunch put a stop to that? Are positions being filled if/when someone retires?

I believe three people were just hired recently to fill a couple of vacancies and keep the department at full strength. They would have been from this past exam.
