I know this is an odd topic guys, but i have a question...do cities still use tornado sirens to call their volunteers to the fire station to get the trucks?? i had thought at one time Hubbard did this and i've heard the siren going at points calling them to the station, but i've never heard it again. Until today when i was at school at Mount Union and heard a tornado siren going today. i know i live in the middle of nowhere and i thought it was a department calling their firefighters. if any can help me, let me know---peace out, struthersboy

Alert sirens are still in use in Northern Kentucky, but they're scarce. Edgewood still has their siren but it's been a couple of years since I've heard it used.

Many area departments stopped using the tornado sirens for several reasons. The top two reasons being that people were not sure if the siren was going off bacause of a tornado or because of a fire call. Disaster Services wanted things to be REALLY clear that there was a Tornado. Also, with the popularity of fire pagers where the department can call it's volunteers easily, sirens were no longer really necessary. I'm pretty sure Columbiana Co. departments still use the siren on occasion as does Lawrence Co in Pennsylvania.
