Squad 33

O.K. The YFD has a rescue/engine on order to replace the squad. Does this mean that Squad 33 will become an engine company when this rig is placed in service?
Also, since the current IH/Pierce rescue would apparently have more storage space for equipment, what happens to any excess tools, etc. from the Squad?

The current rescue has some pumping capabilities. When the new rig is delivered, things won't change too much. S33 will run on box 4's in and around the downtown area.
On Box 5's it will be primarily a rescue unit. The department is not planning on letting it get used as an engine on working fires.
I'm not sure if there is a loss or a gain in the amount of equipment space the new rig can handel. I know that the current squad truck is kind of short. I think the engine will be a little longer and the high compartments will help offset the reduced storage space (if any)

The new rescue/pumper Pierce/Enforcer will be a first-due Engine where needed and an all-around Squad and Heavy Rescue as well. Therefore expect an all-purpose vehicle for every conceivable use.

Will there be new extrication, cribbing, airbags, etc., and equipment like that be ordered or you just move the equipment from Squad 33 to the new Enforcer?

Most likely, the equipment will just get moved.

I don't know if it is responding now or not. A firefighter at 7's said it would be a few more days when I talked to him yesterday so who knows.

I heard that the new Squad 33 won't be going into service until it gets a few new tools that it needs. My question is, if they don't have these tools already and are responding, why can't they respond without them?

Hey everyone,
I drove by station 1 today on my way home from YSU and new 33's was parked in old 33's normal spot, so i guess that means that it is in service, i am not sure however.

I'm a little dissapointed that the new rescue is not a walk through.
Still looks great! Very big! Jamie.
