With the financial crunch looming over the city, Why doesn't the YFD and city consider having a small volunteer detachment? Sure, the full time firefighters would think that since they have volunteers they won't hire more full timers. Well, as a volunteer firefighter here in South Carolina, Our department is paid and volunteer. both sides work together well. Plus, it helps our ISO rating. And of course while on the fire/rescue scene a volunteer can do the small things leaving the full timer to focus more on important things.
 We get the same training as our full timers and we have training every Tuesday night and we have one mandatroy training day a quarter. We have had at time storms run through the city leaving all our Engine Companies out on calls, Our Volunteers and off duty paid firefighters would come in and man 2nd out Engines and Towers providing the best service and coverage to the community.
 I think it wouldn't hurt to at least look into it and get feed back from all involved.

CHIEF ONEIL I HAVE BEEN A BIG SUPPORTER OF YOURS SINCE YOU MADE CHIEF FINALLY WE HAVE A GREAT CHIEF HERE IN TOWN. BUT MAYBE THE TIME HAS COME TO ADD SOME VOLUNTEERS TO THE RANKS TO BOOST MANPOWER IN YOUNGSTOWN. IF THEY CAN BE USED IN OTHER TOWNS AS HELP NOT AS REPLACEMENTS FOR GREAT FIRE FIGHTERS. YES THE LEVY NEEDS PASSED TO ENSURE MANPOWER AND SAFETY OF ALL CONCERNED TO INCLUDE THE MEN AND WOMEN OF YFD. I FOR ONE SUPPORT THE LEVY AND WILL VOTE FOR IT NEXT WEEK.

Well, as the day approaches for all to vote, lets keep in mind all of our public safety personnel, without them our lives are at stack.
 Chief O'Neil, I support you and your department 100%, I to think it's time to add some volunteers to the ranks as support personnel and not as a replacement to hiring full time firefighters.
 By the list of calls and current funding problems that some how always come up it wouldn't hurt the city at all. Your men need some assistance both full time and volunteer.
