Just because you have a paramedic card, doesn't mean you know how to fight fire.  It takes more than rubber gloves.

I don't know what the status of that building is.  Sure looks like someone could be living there or maybe a home/office?

I really like these photographs of the 14's & 11's.  I always like the covered veranda above the apparatus doors at the 14's.  When I was much younger I would ask to park in the rear of their station while I ate at Jos Bissett's Grub Steak.  The restaurant occupied a building that stood where the "Powers Regulator" building is in this photo.  Later they expanded into another adjoining building.  Eventually, they bought a few of the hiuses in the rear and made a nice parking lot for patrons.  Which was really nice for me after the 14's moved North a few blocks.  This station still stands but, alas, the restaurant is gone.

I really like the old cars & the classic Coca Cola sign on the Brown St. Market in the 11's picture.  Do you notice the marquee on the building next to the market?  I'm not sure what the theatre was when this photo was taken, but later in life it was the Todd Theatre.  Which, if true be told, was a pretty seedy strip joint.  Old timers will tell you how the gallant members of Engine Co. 11 would protect these fallen angels when things would get out of hand in the club.  The 3rd floor was a great place of refuge to hide out from club managers, crazy patrons, and jealous boyfriends.  Ah, the good old days ::)

On the firefighting side:  Co. 14 had an engine and a truck while Co. 11 was a single engine.  Co. 11 & Co. 14 now are single trucks and have a Medic Unit in their station.  Both Stations have an engine assigned, but they only run when on duty staffing allows it, which is very rare.

Old Company 11 on Brown is in fact a private residence.  On occasion, the owner has opened it up as part of a home tour.  Although I haven't had the opportunity (yet) to go through it, members of the department that have say it's beautiful inside.
