Another of the many companies that produced fire alarm equipment many years ago. The ad is from "The Firemen's Standard". Also shown is an enlargement of the alarm box from the ad.

Anyone know much about this company. The Alarm Box is very rare was wondering about the history of the company
Originally posted by BS918 on 03/10/04
A rare box indeed and desirable. George Milton Stevens was born in 1838
son of Collins Stevens a principal in the Turret & Marine clock Co. in
Boston 1858. In 1861 George was brought to the company as a bookkeeper. A year later Moses Crane also a principal in the Turret
tower clock co, and the owner of his father AArons tower clock co. dropped out of the patnership ! George made alarm equipment till 1915 and died in 1917. Most of the alarm stuff he did make is after 1900.
while any of his items are rare the early alarm stuff is difficult to find.
This is the 3rd Stevens box to come to auction since the E bay start.
One of the boxes I purchased cost me $ 750 . I would not be surprised
if this surpasses the one I bought a few years back. At the time I bid
better than $ 1000 for it. The good thing for collectors this time around is I have 2 different Stevens boxes and this is one of the styles I have so they won't have to fight me for this one. It may be another 2 years before another pops up !

This Stevens street box has a much fancier style of border design than the one shown above.

It is September 16, 1904. Will you be at Syracuse next week? If you're in the flea market I'll stop by and say Hi!....

Another Stevens gong, this one was sold for $2750.00 on eBay recently. Notice the Stevens name and 1872 date on the inner mechanism.
