And so the mayor says...
« on: April 07, 2003, 05:52:34 PM »
Once again the Mayor of Youngstown is threatening laying off Fire and Police service to the city of Youngstown.  What is this all about?  I understand this has something to do with a bill before the the House on reducing local funding by about 3.6 Mil a year.

Where to I write, who do I write to?  If there is another layoff of Fire and Police after the tax passed that helped to make us one of the highest taxed areas of the state.  Who the F**K is going to want to live here with high tax and skeleton crew of protection?

Once again...where and to whom should I write a nice long letter to?

Thanks

Another city employee tired of all this crap!

Our Great State of Ohio...

You have the Ohio House and Senate to thank for this one.

Here's who you can write to...
Look up your House representative(s) for the area you live at http://www.house.state.oh.us/

For Youngstown, it looks like
Carano, Kenneth A.  Democrat   59 and
Patton, Sylvester  Democrat   60
But check and make sure your writing to the correct person!

in the Ohio senate, check out...
http://www.senate.state.oh.us/
There we have Senator Robert F. Hagan

Ya know, what amazes me is we elect these people to represent us in making laws and helping us better our area in which we live. No one I have ever talked to wants money cuts for our cities and towns.  Wonder how much Columbus will get.

Do we have any specifics about what might occur if the city has to lay off more firefighters and POs? This is getting rediculous that after only being back 5 months, these jobs are in the lurch again. Even though this is due to state cuts, I still blame McKelvey for not taking any proactive measures to ensure that this city stays in the black, talking to our state leaders, and really working for the people of this city instead of simply working for himself. I would love for him to run for state office like he plans to, just so that he will lose and be unemployed... :-) But I swear, I am not bitter at all for him failing to help the people and city of Youngstown.

Come live in Boardman .... where the Township Trustees spend our money wastefully chasing after trains they can't stop .....

Hmm ... maybe thats the ticket ... lets get everyone to move out of Youngstown .. then they can lay off the entire safety services cus there won't be anyone left to protect!

Shame on McKelvey

As a veteran of two work stoppages in my career in the YFD, it is a sad sight to see this politician continue to use the Safety Forces of Youngstown as bait, and hold the citizens of this town as hostage.

You talk about not getting it! No wonder people are running to get out of the City of Youngstown; Politicians have choked the life blood out of everyone in it.

Being a Firefighter and Police Officer is the toughest and most dangerous job in our society. Doing it in Youngstown makes it even worse. It disheartens me to see what the politicians have turned a once proud city into.

Stay Safe Men and Woman in Uniform, because there are people who care !

 So, did this reduction in funding occur?  If so, are layoffs planned (again)?

Nope, word is it was just a scare tactic to get the state tax increase. So far no cuts have happened that I know of.
