Bill, many thanks for the Philly steamer photo that you sent along.  Steve Heaver from the Fire Museum of Maryland has offered that the Army Steamer is a 1904-09 American LaFrance First Size Metropolitan.

THE  WINTER PHOTO OF THE  STEAMER  NO  20  IS   IN PHILADELPHIA     THE MAIN WAY TO HAVE A FAST LOOK IS  NOTE THE TWO HYDRANTS .      THE CITY WATER DEPT  INSTALLED A HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM IN 1906,   AND PLACED   THE HIGH PRESSURE HYDRANTS NEAR  DOMESTIC  WATER HYDRANTS

I BELIEVE THE IDEA WAS THE   STEAMER  OPERATOR OR ENGINEER COULD WORK BOTH < HOW I HAVE NO IDEA  ,   MANY OF  HIGH PRESSURE HYDRANTS  IN MY TIME  WERE IN OR  NEAR CORNERS  OR THE MIDDLE OF  BLOCKS  AND CAME IN VERY HANDY

ON BIG FIRE I WAS  AT  THEY WERE FEEDING TWO 5 INCH LINES
PER HYDRANT ,  THE SYSTEM IS NOW  OOS .  IF YOU EVER BEEN IN PHILLY  THEY ARE THE LARGE  HYDRANTS WITH THREE  STEMS

THEY WERE PAINTED  DARK GREEN > AND THEN RED  ,
I BEEN TOLD  THEY ARE REMOVING THE BIG HYDRANTS  TO MAKE MORE PARKING SPACES  AND IF YOU WANT ONE  IT MIGHT BE POSSIBLE   BUT YOU MIGHT NEED A  CRANE TO PICK ONE UP

IF  YOUY WOULD LIKE TO SEE THE PUMPIUNG STATIONS   GO TO PHILLY HISTORY.ORG  AND GO TO DELAWARE AVE AND  RACE  ST
ITS ON THE CORNER AND  THERE ARE PHOTOS  FROM INSIDE  ALSO

,BY THE WAY  THE FIRE  THAT WAS LISTED FROM THE PAPER WAS A PRETTY GOOD ONE    AROUND  52  STORES   RAN A BLOCK ,
AND IS ALSO  IN PHILLY HISTORY.ORG   TRY 1300 MARKET ST
AND QUESTIONS AS ALWAYS   BATTLELAMP .COM @AOL.COM  IS  ME       SW
