Gerstenslager was founded in 1860 in Wooster, Ohio - - started the business that we know in 1951 - - they went out of business in 1987 but I don't know why.

 Boston 1964 Mack / Gerstenslager
« Reply #2 on: March 25, 2003, 11:26:14 PM »

It's not a Gertie. It's an Approved.

Please allow me to suggest that the following pictures of Boston's 1964 Mack B rescue does not have a Gerstenslager body. The tip-off is the comment that it has it's a New York style rescue truck. FDNY (and NYPD) used Approved Fire Apparatus (from Long Island) for their Rsq or Emergency Service Division vehicles. I remember seeing them a lot as I grew up in NYC from 1939 on. Here are some links:
Boston FD RSQ
https://bostonfirehistory.org/fire-companies/rescue-co-squads-fire-companies-2/rescue-company-fire-companies/
"May 12, 1964 – Company received a new apparatus, a Mack/Gerstenshlager ‘New York-style’ rescue truck, Serial # B85F-1488, Shop # 303. "
Many fire buffs have mis-identified this rig.
What's hard to find these days are fotos of FDNY Mack B R1 with it's Approved body. I'm still looking.

Thanks Brucobuff. So many pix on the web are lacking photog ID.

Here's another view of the bus style Gertie posted by GA Dave (#31 in 2012) Of the Natrona Hts Emergency Services vehicle.

In this case it is reasonable to assume that you reposted the same photo that I posted on this site in the RSI thread back in December, 2010.
Obviously someone right-clicked that image, and posted it out on the net where you apparently found it. It was probably Pinterest, which mostly consists of purloined images from other websites. This is one of the risks of posting in a free use site such as YFF. This is the main reason I don't post much of my own stuff.

Yes. What I do now is review the entire thread on a particular subject to make sure it hasn't been posted B4.

That is a 1968 Ford/Swab, but a great picture, I've never seen that one. It was just on an online auction in January, I'll post pictures.
