Gray
« on: November 28, 2002, 09:56:04 AM »
Gray was a fairly popular color for fire apparatus in the pre-1930 era.  A few departments stuck with the color until after WWII.

Roanoke, Virginia used gray until the mid 1950's.  This 1950 Corbitt/Oren pumper was one of 4 similar 1000 gpm rigs delivered that year.  Here it is shown as Reserve Engine 17.

Fuller Hose Co. #1 of North East, PA has added this Freightliner FL-80/American LaFrance 1500/1000 to their fleet of gray apparatus.  It runs as Engine 203 and replaced an open cab Ward LaFrance from the 1950's.

That's Pennington, NJ.  It's near the Delaware River, just a short distance north of Trenton.  Their whole fleet is this color.

This was privately owned in Maryland for about 20 yrs. and was a familiar sight at Parades/musters. The owner was a friend of J. Floyd's and was a chief officer at several MD VFDs.

HAMILTON Twp.,NJ, just outside of Trenton had a fleet of gray Seagraves, the 54 Seagrave engine, another Anniversary series rig, and an early 1960's K-series ladder.
The ladder was rehabed in the 1980s and have a roof added, it was still in service in 1992.
