Evan, welcome to the board! What kind of equipment do you have parked in the station over there in East Youngstown, er I mean, Campbell (a bit of trivia, before the name was changed to Campbell, it was known as East Youngstown). Does Campbell have any type of a web site or anything in the works? How about new equipment any new apparatus planned? Feel free to post anything about the goings on in Campbell on the Mahoning Valley Fire Departments Board!

Hello to everyone here. My name is Fred and I am a 24 year veteran member of the Springfield Mass. Fire Department. Our department was established January 17, 1794 and have provided the citizens of Springfield with continous service for 208 years. I am assigned to fire dispatch and have served as an EMT and member of Rescue Squad . I also hold the unofficial position of historian. We currently operate 9 stations with around 300 paid members assigned to 12 engines, 6 ladders with 1 rescue unit and a Hazmat team. We work a 4 days on 4 days off schedule with 2 days at 10 hrs and 2 nights at 14 hrs then off for 4 days. We operated our own stand alone dispatch facility and training academy. I am currently advising an Explorer post which I was a member of 28 years ago.

Fred, welcome! Thanks for checking in. You go from being an explorer 28 years ago to being their adviser 28 years later. That's an interesting work schedule, 4 on 4 off. Youngstown does the 1 day on two off cycle. 24 on and 48 off.

When I was approached with the chance to act as advisor for the post, I couldn't say no. We have about 100 vacant positions on the department and we need everybody we can get. We have 2 engine companies tapped out of service on any given day or night tour. I want to make sure we get the very best people out there. Our chief is committed to hiring about 50 this year. My son is a co advisor and will soon take the civil service exam for the fire department in April. He is right now a member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard and is a member of the fire department on base so hiring him is a homerun because he's already trained.

Hello I just wanted to indroduce myself. my name is Ray Green I am a firefighter/paramedic with the Jackson Township Fire Dept. In Stark County. I've been there for 8 years now. Prior to that I have been invloved with other departments around the county while I was in the military and in college. I noticed the discussions on the Gamewell Boxes and systems. Growing up in Akron I remember the boxes on the phone poles in the nieghborhood. I have always thought the dispatching of units with this system was pretty cool. Thanks for letting me join I am looking foreward to more interesting discussions.

I'm Bill Blunden. I'm a 20 year member of the Carthage Volunteer Fire Dept, in Carthage NY. I have held numerous offices in those years including Secretary, President, 1st Assist Chief, Personnel Secretary and Lieutenant. I am currently the Treasurer, Captain, and Historian for the department. I am an a member of the interior attack team and have done this for almost 20 years. I am also the proud owner of a 1946 Mack pumper that I just brought home from Cleveland Ohio a few weeks ago. It is my midlife crisis. Instead of a blonde, I have a firery red-head. Looking forward to using this site. I have some pictures and web sites of the fire that burned most of our downtown business district a few weeks ago that I will be sharing.
