What is carried in the small box, with a slanted door, just above the forward portion of the compartments?

I believe they carried EMS equipment in there.

Most companies carry longer hand tools like shovels and a claw tool in the enclosed diamond plate compartment on both the American Lafrances and KME's. Items you don't want cluttering up the cab. There is already a halligan bar and sometimes an axe lying in the cab and your EMS bag for shoe runs.Right behind this compartment on the officers side of the piece is where the second in bag or flake bag is carried. It holds 150' of inch and 3/4 line with a gate valve and a tip.
