An American laFrance factory photo of a "war baby" pumper for the Aurora Fire Department (IL?), obviously delivered during WW II.  This is a true war baby as there is not a speck of chrome anywhere on the rig.  Blacked out Mars Light, blacked out Sterling Siren etc. etc.  Of course the reason for the lack of chrome was the value of chromium as a wartime material.

This was the good part. I needed an E V12 engine for a truck I had, however, the truck the engine was needed for has since been sold, (#7840 400 series). This complete engine, transmission, and transfer case is now available.
Best part of the deal? The engine is 100% complete, and last ran about 10 years ago. Nothing has been removed and no covers have been taken off, and left open, with missing parts & missing bolts here & there.
2nd best part of the deal? I can include the front clip as seen plus the hood for an additional cost.
3rd best part you ask? This engine was in a straight ladder, with only a booster line, so it should be low hours, since it wouldn't have sat at fires pumping water for days on end.
4th best part? The registration tag is still there.
 ;D
If there is interest, PM me off line.

Any info on the aerial size, who originally took delivery of this beauty and what engine was in her?

What are the differences between the 500 and 600 series (other than looks) and how do I tell the pre-war 500s from the pre-war 600s?

A 500 from East Liverpool, OH...what a beauty!  Her stick is a 75-footer, which is rare for a tiller with a metal aerial.

The Type 500 and 600 rigs are often confused with the 500 and 600 Series trucks.

The easiest way to tell a 500 from a 600 Series is by looking at the grille.  On a 500 there are three small grille bars in each of four sections (separated by larger/thicker bars), while a 600 has four.

The Type 500 and 600 models have narrow bodies and cabs with two-piece "V" windshields; the 500 has a mesh grille, while the 600 has grille bars similar to the 600 Series.
