Liberal, Kansas
1977 Chevrolet/Pierce
500 gpm 250 gallon tank
This truck also had an American Fire Apparatus logo on it.  They may have had something to do with the front mount pump.

College Station, Texas

1981 Ford/Pierce
1000 gpm 750 gallon tank

1981 Chevrolet/Pierce

1979 Chevrolet/Pierce
250 gpm 250 gallon tank

American was the Kansas Pierce dealer locate in Salina. They originally sold American Fire Appratus hence the name. This is also why Kansas had so many American rigs. In 1976-1977ish they became the Pierce Dealer until 1989-90 when they went out of business. In the end the sons had taken the business over and they had added their last name and it was called Weiss American. They were also selling McCoy Miller Ambulances in the end. They resurfaced as Weiss in the late 1990's as the Ferrera Dealer and now sell E-One. They also now have a very successful brush squad business at the original Salina location.

Chassis dated 1985, delivered 1986.  1250/750 delivered to Elkins Park, Pennsylvania (one of two).  In service 1997-2010 Dover, Ohio as Engine 2.  Color is tradiitonal color for Elkins Park, and is listed as "Tampa Beige" on builders tag.

They replaced the two Pierces with two E-One engines, and a few years ago replaced those with two very nice Pierces; they have since reduced the fleet by one pump, selling one to Horsham, Pennsylvania.  Elkins Park also has a Pierce tower (no pump). See:

Liberal, Kansas Pierce: American was the Kansas Pierce Dealer from the mid-late 1970s-1990. In the mid 1980's-1990 it was called Weise-American. They originally sold American Fire Appratus from ?-mid 1970's. This is why Kansas was loaded with American Rigs. They normally affixed a dealer logo to the apparatus once it was delivered. It was a red oval flame design with silver American Fire Appratus Salina, Kansas. Our 1980 Pierce Arrow-LTI had one and I have found others across the state of Kansas affixed to Pierces. Normally on the Engineers door or front of the rig. Lawrence, Kansas had two Pierce mini-pumpers very similar to this one with front mount pumps. Thanks for posting your photos are great. Stay Safe, Rick
