Unidentified Boardman pumper - help!
« Reply #108 on: December 15, 2007, 06:44:42 PM »
This picture, cut from a magazine(?), was found in a file cabinet I was cleaning out years ago at the old plant.  Note that the crew appears to be wearing proximity coats.  Can anyone identify this rig for me?  Thanks!

1000 GPM - 1250 Tank
#F 2973  Model: F-21000-CII

I like these commercial chassis jobs, but this is not as nice as the 4 photos in the previous post of this thread!  BoardmanSteve, can you explain the model designation?  My thoughts are an F series chassis with a 2-stage 1000-gpm pump, but CII really has me wondering.

The "wire" wheel cover is very unusual...I've never seen one like that before!

Per your query:

F = Ford
2 = 2-stage pump
1000 = 1,000-gpm pump
CII = "Chieftain II" series

For each Boardman built, there was a 4x6" "build card" with basic information that was placed in a file box in the front office.  This was so that, when a customer called about a truck, a quick reference could be made without digging through the truck's complete file folder.  These (three) file card boxes are now in my possession...thankfully!

This truck, as noted on the card, has a 1,000-gallon tank.  Thanks for the post...this is a rig I don't have a photo of!

After going through a stack of photos, these 1980s conventionals started to look alike (*yawn*).  However, they're definitely not; check out the differences in compartments, lighting, trim, etc., and so forth:

$81,282

Sunray, TX

She's a Duplex, one of two very similar rigs purchased by Pampa in the 1950s.  What is the white Ford 4x4 in the background?

Pampa, TX

These were the first Boardman "customs;" that is, they used a commercially-available custom apparatus chassis and had Boardman nameplates installed above the grilles in place of the Duplex emblems on the hood sides.  The grille design was also proprietary to Boardman.
