Amite, Louisiana Unit 1
1966 American LaFrance 4x4
1000 GPM - 1000 Tank - 300# Dry Chemical
#8-1-519
This was an unusual rig constructed at Elmira. It was a little of everything for the time, pumper, tanker, and off road vehicle. The front mounted winch is also different.
Unfortunately the rig never ran very well and Amite stopped using it as a first line piece long ago. In 1999 it was sitting in the corner, unable to start, and the A.F.D. couldn't give it away to another department...

I have to say that American LaFrance has made some ugly looking apparatus. The only chassis I would ever consider putting a truck on is the Metropolitan. The Eagle looks like a motor home. If I wanted a truck that I could cook hot dogs and sleep in I would by an RV.

Just because you have a paramedic card, doesn't mean you know how to fight fire. It takes more than rubber gloves.
