Newburgh is located in the Hudson River Valley north of New York City.  There was a wonderful series of postcards issued around 1910 showing the fire companies and stations of the N.F.D. which I will post in this column.

Brewster Hook & Ladder Co No 1

Apparently the N.F.D. had paid drivers as the men on the rigs in this postcard series all appear to be in the same type of uniform.

Notice the public alarm bell over the doorway of the station.

Highland Steamer Co No 3

This is a beautiful fire station!  The apparatus bay is to the rear of the building leaving the front of the station with the appearance of a private residence.

Ringgold Hose #1 operates an early motorized chemical and hose wagon.  Can anyone supply the name of the apparatus manufacturer of this interesting machine?

Things have changed quite a bit in Newburgh.  The following photos were taken around 1970.  The first shows what I believe are the former quarters of Ringgold Hose #1 (the stations of Highland #3 & the Brewster H&L are built in the same design).  This building then housed the Veteran Volunteer Firemen's Assn.  Former quarters of the C. M. Leonard Steamer Co. No. 2 are shown in the second photo.  Beautiful old houses.

Highland Steamer Co. #3 located at 492 Broadway near West Street built in
1867.

According to google this is what is currently at this address, either it has been seriously remodeled or old torn down and this built in its place.

Thanks for posting that photo.  I believe that this is the same building after a big remodel.  The roofline of the original station is at the same height as the lower concrete line (the meet the windows of the building next door at the same height) that is above the windows.  Looks like the original windows and roof were removed and replaced with this 1930's (1940's?) looking front.

Still the same building. The facade was rebuilt during the depression as part of Roosevelt's public works program. Cool pictures of the other firehouses!
