Stillwater, OK Fire Dept
Station #2 (Okla St Univ Campus Fire Station)
Built in 1939 as a WPA project to house State Fireman's School and Stillwater Fire Dept.
Owned by Oklahoma State University with ground floor on permanent loan to SFD.
2nd and 3rd floors house OSU's Fire Protection/Safety Technology degree program.
OSU has built a new building for FPST and rumor has it that SFD will take over entire station re-installing the poles that were removed in the 90's and moving crew quarters back upstairs.
Houses Pumper 2, Ladder 2, Ambulance 2, and Rural 2

An interesting tidbit about the Atoka Fire Dept... back in the 60s thru the early 90's, the FD was also the city hall, police department and jail. The paid firefighter had a cell in the main room that held any prisoners and he was responsible for feeding that prisoner. I beleive that is all changed now with a new fire station. The station held a paid truck and a vollie truck or 2. The paid truck was restricted to inside the city limits but the volunteers could go out of town if needed.

These aerial views show the old and new headquarters stations at Oklahoma City.  The first photo shows 2 buildings next to each other with the drill tower behind the newer structure.  In the second photo a tractor-drawn aerial (Seagrave?) is set up at the new tower with the firehouse at the end of the block and possibly a repair facility for apparatus on the near end of the street.

This entire complex - even the drill tower - still stands, but in commercial use.

Steve,

What is the address or intersection? I had no idea that it was still standing. Sad they moved, Although the new No.1 is a neat modern two story. Do you remember what year the drill school moved to the current location? Thanks in advance Rick

400 block of California, just west of the Myriad - you can see the drill tower from I-40.

About 1976...?

I looked it up on google. I amazed that a complex like this still exists. Although I do like the current No1 it is sad that such a great complex is unused for fire department use. Seems like they lost something great. Not to mention the historical aspect of the fire department being located in the same location for a long time as the two photos show. Very similar to old KCFD No2 at 1020 Central and Nashville No9 "The Bottoms". Two historical locations and Fire Houses lost.
