Uniontown has about 12 driver-engineers, who drive the city's rigs 24/7 and staff 2 stations, usually with 4 per shift (3 at HQ, 1 at station shown), along with 2 chief officers, this is the initial attack force. UFD only has about 2 dozen effective volunteers, so any serious incident results in call-backs of off-duty, plus heavy use of adjacent township vfd's i.e., South Union VFD is only about 1/2 mile from UFD HQ. UFD and IAFF Local 955 fought a successful battle to keep the paid staff intact after the city's mayor attempted to abolish the paid dept. and go all-vol. This is all detailed at safeuniontown.com.
