Introduced in 1959; these stubby Anniversary series rigs had a 140" wheelbase and were less than 8ft. wide (94.5")
Pittsburgh had the biggest fleet with 6 bought in 1965.
This may have been the first, delivered to Southern Manheim Twp. in Lancaster Co.,PA., in 1959.
The 1000/400 rig was delivered in red, and was slimed in the 1970's, along with acquiring more compartments.
In the mid-1990's, this was how it looked in front of Mt. Airy,MD.'s old fire house, the owner was trying to make a brew-pub out of the old fire house. It was gone several years later.

Most unique Anniversary series"shorty" was this 1964 200/400 "booster rig" for Humane FC#1 of Pottsville,PA. It would later be sold to the Harley-Davidson plant in York,PA. and serve until 1998.
This shows the rig after it was restored several years ago at a muster.

I have owned the 1967 Seagrave Pittsburgh Shorty from Johnstown PA FD
since 2005.  When I got it, it was in pretty rough shape. Booster reels had
been removed by a previous owner and booster pump is OOS.  Paint was
faded into several shades of pink and body panels had degraded into shades
of rust.

It did, however retain much of its original requipment such as hose, small tools
and appliances several of which still bore "JFD" stampings.  I also got all of the
maintenance records that the Johnstown City shops had on this piece from day
#1 until it was taken out of service and sold in 1994.  The other owners also
did maintenance on it and kept fair records.

The apparatus had some (but not all) of its Johnstown FD markings even after
sitting outside unprotected for many years!

I had the apparatus completely rehabbed with new body panels, major electrical
overhaul using NOS wire and parts, and the diesel that was installed was completely
rebuilt following a massive failure due to ruptured main oil line.

It has been repainted and relettered to represent my VFD of which I am a Life
Member of.

Here is a factory picture and also a recent picture of this unit. It was "Engine 61"
when in the Johnstown FD fleet.

I have ALL of the files on this apparatus including the build sheets, proposals, equipment
specs and maintenance and inspections.  Also have the bid and replacement/repower
documents for the diesel engine and the Underwriters tests for the pumps.

I have tried MANY times to contact Johnstown FD in order to get any history on this
piece with no success.

brucobuff;

Where is that "Harley Davidson" rig today?

I was told that the "sister" rig to mine (one serial number up)
was the one at York and that it was actually in their museum
up there.  Do you happen to know anything about that?

I am trying to track down all 6 in the batch that mine came from.
So far, only can account for 5.

Thanks.

Sorry, that photo was taken in 2007 at a SPAAMFAA muster in Westminster,MD. I can only asume that someone connected with Pottsville owns it, since that is what the restoration reflects.
I am somewhat amazed that any Johnstown fire apparatus survived the flood in 1977.

Do you know of any of the "Shorty's" for sale?
If none of the above are for sale perhaps one with the flat front & open cab. 60/70 era
Again, I am new to the site . My new venture is to look/purchase an older seagrave.

I thank all for the information
