If anyone wants I can scan/post old Chicago houses from the 1988 yearbook. With the exception of Ken Little I think this was the only time anyone photographed every firehouse in the city. Most of the 1 bay houses look the same after what I've posted.

Engine Company 7
2058 Sutton Avenue
Mt. Washington
Constructed 1932
This place will fool ya!  No one of the bays was not sealed in, this was constructed as a single bay house.  Directly inside the door is the housewatch/day room, then a rest room and the kitchen.
Engine 7's 1938 Ahrens-Fox is on the ramp in this circa 1960 Ed Effron photo.

Some nice examples of single bay stations.  The Arlington firehouse is really nice.  I would ike to see someone in this area build a station of similar design.
The Park Circle Station in Arlington is a bit unique in another way. It is built at the top of a hill across from a water reservoir standpipe. The living quarters are below grade. I never heard if they slide up a pole to get to the apparatus.  ;D
Arlington Mass has other unique and iconic fire stations. But they are not single bay.

This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions!
What do you mean "biblical"?
What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor. Real wrath of God type stuff! Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness, earthquakes, and volcanos! The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifices, dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria!

Some how I forgot to  add  to my last  post

There  are many  single  stations  still standing in philly and some are used for other  things    i find it sort of funny  that two ex stations
now  sell beer  and snacks,   If i were a betting man i would bet there was some beer drank in the old stations

There is a list in the back of  the history book hike out .
if any one is in the philly area  I know where they are  and never try and find them on  your own   Some  are in pretty bad areas

i buff only  early on sunday mornings in the war zones .
again i am at battlamp@aol.com      tours can be arranged  but you have to drive .    I lost one eye .   sw

Eng 30, Last firehouse with a neon sign

Interesting to see how this neighborhood has changed. Next to the engine house appears to be a Polish company of some sort. Today it's a Northwest Insurance. The neighborhood, Wicker Park, used to be a big Polish neighborhood before becoming largely Puerto Rican (hence Engine 30's nickname Ashland Ave Bomberos). Today it's really gentrified and become more diverse in racial makeup.

Yeah, it was a very Polish neighborhood until the early-mid 1980s. I remember a deli across the street from the firehouse that I went to with my grandparents. Next door was a tavern that was mostly Polish as well. There were rumors a few years ago of getting Eng 30 a new house, I think they decided to pass on it for the time being.
