Forcible Entry Tools
« on: June 22, 2011, 12:28:41 AM »
Forcible Entry or Open Up Tools as they are called someplaces go beyond the axe and the Halligan Bar. In fact some of the greatest variety and experimentation have been in developing Open Up tools. While some are universal, like the Pick Head Axe, others may be unique to a region or city.
Image number 1 is the P&Q Door Opener, the Rabbit Tool of it's day, introduced in the 1920's in New England.
Image Number 2 is a Callahan Jimmy used to force doors and windows. It was common in the New England Area until at least 50 years ago and works on the sliding weight principle like a dent puller to seat the prying part

This city is headed for a disaster of biblical proportions!
What do you mean "biblical"?
What he means is Old Testament, Mr. Mayor. Real wrath of God type stuff! Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Forty years of darkness, earthquakes, and volcanos! The dead rising from the grave! Human sacrifices, dogs and cats living together! Mass hysteria!

The tools in this post were locally developed in the Manchester N.H. Area.
Not the best picture I realize.
The image on the right is a Door Opener. The Image on the left is a locally produced Ceiling Hook,

Detroit door opener.  Pirsch also had a combination tool that was a hose clamp/door opener that had a hinged set of wooden jaws on one end and otherwise worked on the same principle.  These worked well from what I understand.  The Pirsch model seems pretty unwieldy, and probably looks better on the running board as a decoration than trying to maneuver around with you.
